The transformation of stored chemical energy in food to useful energy for the body.

Inhalation
the body takes in oxygen molecules. The intercoastal muscles relax, the rib cage moves up and out. The diaphram relaxes and moves down to make more roo for the lungs. To make room for the lungs the horax decreses, so we can take in more air.

Exhalation
the body expells carbon dioxide molecules. The intercoastal muscles contract. the rib cage moves down and in, the diaphram contracts and makes a dome shape to expell more ait, the thorax becomes larger and the pressure increases.
