SIT STRENGTH- Poppe and Linssen (1999)
Found that out of 1143 Eastern European teenagers, the majority of them judged their own nation as moral and efficient than any other nation.

SIT STRENGTH- Verkooijen et al (2007)
Survey with 6000, 16-20 year olds and found those who were into punk, hip-hop, skating were more likely to take drugs than those who identified as nerds, or sporty/religious groups... suggesting taking on the norms of their in-group culture.

SIT STRENGTH- Willets and Clarke (2013)
Suggests SIT may be useful for nurses (who must take on a variety of social identities due to their profession), in order to emphasise their interrelatedness and group belongingness which can help develop their professional identity.

SIT STRENGTH- Tajfel (1970/1)
64 boys aged 14-15 put into 2 groups w/out competition. 2 groups random but told their underestimators + overestimators. Boys then allocated points overwhelmingly to their in-group, suggesting no hostility but competing identities due to the 2 groups

SIT WEAKNESS- Palow et al (1990)
Found that individual differences do effect SIT, with those being ranked as highly competitive as having more in-group favouritism than those who were highly co-operative.

SIT WEAKNESS- Dobbs and Crano (2001)
Conducted a minimal groups study but then had the ppts explain why they allocated points where they did. When they were in the majority group, there was much less in-group favouritism, suggesting in-group favouritism may be more complex.

SIT WEAKNESS of incompletedness
Doesn't explain how conflict is created in the presence of competition- RCT does that to a much larger extent, thus suggesting that SIT is instead a part of RCT.

SIT WEAKNESS of accuracy
The theory may not be useful because it only measures if prejudice is there or not, not the AMOUNT of prejudice truly there- which would be useful.
