1) Add only a few drops of indicator (an indicator is an acid or base itself, if you use too much it can affect the precision + accuracy of your titration). 2) Use a white tile to see the colour clearly.

3) Make sure the tip of the burette is full. (The tip should be filled with air before you pass any agents through it - to eliminate all error). 4) Keep the burette vertical. 5) Take readings from the bottom of the memiscus.

Why will the additional water added to the conical flask not affect the results when doing a titration?

Bc when doing a titration, the acid you add will react with the moles of water. The water won't react with chemical components. -SO- the addition of extra water makes no difference to the results.

What are steps 1-3 of doing a titration?

1. Measure out 25cm^3 or alkali or unknown concentration (the analyte) using a pipette. 2. Transfer the alkali to a conical flask. 3. Add indicator (e.g. phenolphthalein or methyl orange) to the conical flask.

What are steps 4-6 in doing a titration?

4. Rinse the burette with some of your standard solution. 5. Fill the burette with your standard solution. 6. Add acid (your standard solution) from the burette to the flask until the end point is reached.
